First, lenses reflect. Glass and lens coatings bounce light straight back at you in a way that plastic and paint do not. Move slowly; at normal speed you will walk right past a pinhole reflection.
Second, most cameras that record in the dark use infrared illuminators, and phone cameras can see infrared even though your eyes cannot.
